Summer 2001. In the Bavarian town of Maisach (near Munich) an organizer was searching for bands to play on his music festival. So he asked his friend René Berthiaume (g) if he and his band wanted to play there. Even though René didn't have a band at that time, he agreed, and so he had to gather a few musicians from his area. Those were Helge Stang (voc), Henning Stein (d), Michael Heidenreich (keys), Andreas Völkl (g) and Sandra Völkl (b). They learned a bunch of songs of popular bands in relatively short time, played a successful gig and decided to stick together to create some own music. Not knowing which direction the band would take they called themselves Equilibrium, but soon it became obvious that influences of Dark, Pagan, Black and Melodic Metal would heavily determine their music, which resulted in a sound they themselves call Epic Viking Metal. The combo played more gigs and acquired a growing number of followers. The first lineup change was in summer 2002 when keyboarder Michael Heidenreich had to leave the band for personal reasons and was replaced by Conny Stein. But when Henning Stein got problems with his health and had to stop drumming at the beginning of 2003, replacement was far from sight. For their rehearsals the band recorded a drum playback and to keep on with live performances they even used it at gigs. Still without someone behind the drums they also recorded a demo CD, which has received very positive responses. A few months later the drum playback tape went into the trash can when Julius Koblitzek joined forces with the band. Only half a year later the next knockback: keyboarder Conny left the band due to the lack of time. This left the band with five members: Helge Stang (voc), René Berthiaume and Andreas Völkl (g), Sandra Völkl (b) and Julius Koblitzek (d).In November 2003 Equilibrium finally signed a deal with Black Attakk Records and in summer 2004 the recordings for their debut album started. But after the band's first festival gig at the German Summerbreeze Festival drummer Julius left the band, resulting in several cancelled gigs. The debut album "Turis Fratyr" was released nonethless in February 2005 and at about the same time a new drummer joined the band. Basti Kriegl played a few gigs with the band before he left as well, being the third drummer in three years to abandon the band.June 2005. For the first time since two years the band has a complete lineup again! Markus Perschke is the new man on the battery and Armin Dörfler from Darkseed took over the keys. So since mid-2005 the lineup consists of Helge Stang (voc), René Berthiaume and Andreas Völkl (g), Sandra Völkl (b), Markus Perschke (d) and Armin Dörfler (keys).
