DJ GONZO

DJ Gonzo started off in 2002 spinning downtempo triphop beats after meeting with D-Purpose, who first introduced him to this kind of music & turntablism and after seeing a performance by DJ Shadow at Pukkelpop. He also learned how to operate Reason and make his own beats but he decided to concentrate on developing his dj-skills first. At that time he was also listening to dnb like f.e. Bad Company, Dillinja,... but he never was interested in spinning that kind of music simply because he thought there weren't enough tracks around which he liked in that genre. He spent most of his time then spinning alongside Sir Lobster at local youth houses, bars and in chill-out areas on parties. But after a year he started putting more intrest in faster beats like Amon Tobin, Aphex Twin, Squarepusher,etc... and searching for more darker, complex and faster rhythms. In 2006 darkstep dnb took a turn with releases like Limewax's We Have Life EP, Current Value's Excellence,... and when Gonzo heard this he immediatly knew which direction he was going to take. He met Teknic, Threat & Process, who had the same kind of intrests musicwise, and together they formed the Low Frequency Crew. They were later on joined by Second Vision. They started throwing local parties, and soon were able to throw their first large party called Invasion. At the same time breakcore and hardcore was getting bigger and bigger in Belgium and this immediatly caught Gonzo's intrest when he first heard this kind of music. Nowadays; mainly influenced by the likes of The Outside Agency, Hellfish, Current Value,... Gonzo's sets consist of a mixture between dnb, hardcore & breakcore spiced up with some scratching. He played alongside names like Eye-d, The Dj Producer, Bryan Fury, I:gor, The Speedfreak, Teknoist, Donny, Limewax, Cooh, Evol Intent, Ewun, The Sickest Squad, Krumble, Bazooka, AK47, Cardopusher, FFF, Shitnat, Igneon System, X&trick, Greyone, Matar, Thrasher, Skull, Antichristus, Dead Kat,...
