The time has come for this Detroit producer and DJ to take it to the next level. In order to truly understand this artist, you must gain some insight as to where he has come from.
Thomas Emmanuel has been involved with music since the age of 4 when he first started playing piano. He created his first piano and vocal arrangement at 6 years old. He had acquired his first "case" of 45's when he was just 8, given to him by his mother.
TE has grown up surrounded in music with a father who has been the front man for a globally respected Detroit rock n' roll band since the 60's. He recalls witnessing the magic of music and musicianship all his life and had his first exposure to performing at the age of 13 when his father called him on stage to perform back up vocals in front of thousands of fans.
Thomas's first taste of production was at 13 when he started producing hip hop beats on an Amiga 1200. His first exposure to electronic music was at 14 and he was quickly taken by it. Striving to seek out as much of this new music as possible he experienced his first "warehouse party" at 14 and the path was charted from there. Electronic music quickly became the soundtrack of Thomas's life as he decided to stop passively experiencing this lifestyle and start truly getting involved.
At 15 (1996) he threw his first event titled, 'Connect' with Sean Rose of Specktor Records. This event would end up going down in the Detroit EDM history books as it featured the debut appearance of Magda, and the city’s debut of DJ Swamp. This event was promoted in 7 states, 3 countries and drew 1750 electronic fans. When the cops came to shut the party down at 1AM, TE and his organizer's tore down the sound and started a train to a new venue (Under the bridge) having everything back up and grooving within 30 minutes. This was a huge success that deepened the connection TE felt for the people, the music, and the culture.
TE then spent the next 6 years furthering his skills in production and started Mobile Box Office (MBO - www.mbo.com which became the first service, in the U.S., to deliver a barcoded ticket directly to a mobile phone.
Now in 2008 Thomas Emmanuel holds a residency at Detroit’s 1 dance club Bleu and has shared the bill with global acts such as Gabriel & Dresden, BT, Paul van Dyk, Dub Fire (Deep Dish), Kenneth Thomas, Armin Van Buuren, Sydney Blu, James Lauer, and many more.
