About Me

Masthead Banner Made with MyBannerMaker.com! Click here to make your own!The Dirty Blagards are nothing less than an institution in their home town of Tullamore, Ireland. The three Mooney brothers Joe, Stephen and Richie are steeped in music and song.
Their songs are about real people in real situations epitomising real life.
They could be described as a Roots Jazzanova Trad band with any other style you could think of in between.
Influenced by such iconic Irish artists like The Dubliners, The Pogues, Damien Dempsey, Brendan Behan, Scary €ire, Flann O’Brien, Sin€ad O’Connor, Pecker Dunne, Liam Clancy, Sean O’Riada, Moving Hearts, Plankty, Scullion, Kila and The Boomtown Rats. Along with such world heavyweights as Tom Waits, Bob Marley, Janis Joplin, John Martyn, Charles Bukowski, Jack Kerouac, Billie Holiday, Allen Ginsberg, Ralph Mctell, Ewan MacColl, Eric Bogle, Emmanuel Jal, Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie, Billy Bragg, Louden Wainwright III, Manu Chao, Miles Davis, Warren Zevon, Fela Kuti, Lucky Dube, George Gershwin, Mozart, Nina Simone, Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus and The Sex Pistols.
Thus coming to the conclusion that The Dirty Blagard’s are quintessentially Irish with a fantastic international flavour
From a very early age they earned their stripes from playing in The St. Columcille Tullamore Pipe Band.
Between them, there isn’t a percussion, string or wind instrument they haven’t mastered.
Over the years they have gone their separate ways and experienced the highs of touring while sharing the stage and great memories with many of their influences.
Joe has played all over the world with many a traditional Irish outfit. With the help of a few more locals he has resurrected The Tullamore Pipe Band and now gives lessons to budding musicians.
Stephen has been writing, singing and performing since he was 10. He recorded his first album “At The End It Gets Dark” at just 18. Unashamedly one of the finest pub singers in the land he literally is a one man band that can cater for any party on any occasion. He has more tunes in his head drive than napster has on its hard drive.
Richie is the youngest of the Mooney’s. He is a superb solo artist in his own right. If Joe is the sound, Stephen is the source then Richie is the rhythm. He has learned the trade from the 2 brothers and brings his unique style to the trio.
The time has now come for The Dirty Blagards to unleash their unique sound to the nation.
With their uplifting and uncompromising lyrics, their majestically made melodies and honest heart felt harmonies The Dirty Blagards are without doubt one of the best live acts on the scene right now.
Having over a hundred songs in their repertoire they want to play to crowds wherever they can. The aim is to gig and get money to record the album that The Dirty Blagards and their many fans have been waiting a long time for.
Catch them where you can and be witness to music history in the making.
