Bienvendios! Located in the heart of Pasadena's Playhouse District, but with an atmosphere suggestive of Mexico City, is Zona Rosa Caffe. Opened in early spring of 1994, this coffeehouse serves Organic/Fair Trade Latin America coffees, specialty teas, fruit drinks (jugos), and baked goods (pan-dulce) from Latin America. Zona Rosa Caffe aims to distinguish itself from the competition by providing several menu items and cultural events traditional of Mexico. Enjoy annual events like Mexican Independence, Dia de los Muertos, or Posada and discover a unique cultural experience. Small, elegant and well decorated, Zona Rosa Caffe provides a relaxing, unhurried and intimate experience. Its architecture is very reminiscent of Mexico's culture with its vibrant colors, glazed tiles and iron work furniture. There are tables set up on the sidewalk with latin music playing in the background, sometimes live. This pleasant atmosphere really reminds one of a busy caffe in Mexico. The interior boasts a second floor lounge that displays a variety of artist's works. During spring and summer months Zona Rosa Caffe hosts weekly events that includes live music performed by a variety of musicians including Latin Jazz, Mariachis, Trio of Guitars, outdoors. The musicians who have performed over the years include: Ozomatli, Quetzal, The Banda Brothers, Javier Vergara Quartet, Domingo Siete, Bernie Meisinger, Son del Sur, Francisco Torres Quintet, Cava, SanaSana, Son Candela, Jose Espinoza,Elliot Caine Quartet and DJ Zegon. There have been many different types of art work displayed in the caffe over the years, done by many well known artist including: R. Kenton Nelson, Jose Ramirez, Vibiana Aparicio-Chamberlain, Sandra Romero, Rich Raya, Erik Petri, Alexander Suriano, Maria Luisa Isenberg, and Karen Walker-Chamberlin.
