Ashes of Iron {New Tunes}

About Me

..Ashes of Iron were formed in October of 2007 when long-time friends and former band buddies, Richi (guitar), Dean (bass) and Mark (drums), met up with Al (singer). A few weeks later, rhythm guitarist Tom joined, completing the line-up. A year later, the band supported one of their idols, Brant Bjork (ex-Kyuss/Fu Manchu) at a kick ass gig in Newcastle.Ashes of Iron have been playing the North East rock circuit – including a gigs with Therapy? and Viking Skull at Newcastle’s O2 Academy - where their tune-it-low-and-play-it-heavy vibe has attracted a loyal and enthusiastic following. During this time, the lads have also recorded their first demo, and continue to write and record new tunes. In addition, the band has recently secured financial backing for a European tour, planned for summer 2009. While Ashes of Iron’s music rocks your socks off with its furious, ‘tighter-than-a-facelift’ beats and dirty guitars, Al’s lyrics scratch at your soul. His voice slips effortlessly from primal scream, through guttural utterance, to emotionally charged melody. That said, the lads aim to remain unpretentious and simply want to make good, honest rock music. They liken their sound to a “concrete brontosaurus,” bringing a stomping new twist to the sometimes traditional, heavy rock vibe of the bands that have inspired them, such as Black Sabbath, Smashing Pumpkins, QOTSA, Alice in Chains… This megalithic lizard however, is far from extinct.
