Rev. Herbert C. Crump Jr., honorably serves as the Senior Pastor and Founder of Freedom Temple Ministries Inc., a multicultural, non-denominational, spirit filled church located in Rock Hill, SC. Since its inception on October 8, 2000 with 38 members, nearly 2000 “Freedom Fighters” have been added to the local ministry and, more importantly, thousands more have been added to the Kingdom, through the baptism of the Holy ghost.On Sunday January 11, 2004 Freedom Temple entered a season of physical loss, in which fire completely destroyed the home of Freedom Temple. As a result, God empowered Pastor Crump to lead Freedom Temple Ministries in establishing The Freedom Center. The Freedom Center is a 65,000 square foot multipurpose facility located in the heart of Downtown Rock Hill which consists of the historic 700 seat “Hemphill Auditorium“, state of the art gymnasium providing basketball, racquetball, volleyball, aerobics and weightlifting for the entire family, Freedom Bookstore, Freedom Café, Freedom Counseling Center, Freedom Montessori School, office and meeting space in addition to serving as the administrative headquarters for Freedom Temple and the Freedom Economic Development Division (FEDD). In addition, plans for additional development on the original site along the textile corridor in downtown Rock Hill are also underway, allowing Freedom Temple to further address the Spiritual, Social and Economic needs of the community.Pastor Crump’s obedience to the divine calling on his life extends far beyond the pulpit. He’s participated extensively in numerous community activities such as the NAACP, Department of Juvenile Justice Auxiliary Probation Officer program, York County Minority Scholarship Foundation and The Kiwanis Club International of Rock Hill in which he was the first African-American member in its 78 year existence.Several organizations throughout the Carolinas, including the Eta Omicron lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., kappa Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi fraternity Inc., Winthrop University and the South Carolina Youth & College Division of the NAACP, have recognized his leadership and civic involvement. Pastor Crump was also the recipient of the Dr. Martin Luther king, Jr. Leadership award, NAACP Southeastern region Benjamin L.
