My name is Juan Navarro and I’m six-teen years old. People say I’m crazy and funny and I can see where they get that, but I don’t try to be that way. I just act my self and that’s what people see. I have four brothers, three sisters and one on the way. I have two families, my parents spilt up when I was five but what I learned from that is in order to have a happy life you have to work for it, it don’t just come and hug you. You have to earn it. I’m not home often, but when I am I like watching movies with my family, and eating dinner. Dinner time is family time and I love pizza. I can eat pizza almost everyday with my family. There are a lot of things I like and when it comes to music I enjoy all of it, but in these times now the music went down hill. Out of al the types of music I like rock most because it talks about teen life and not about someone’s candy shop and licking someone’s lollypop. Another thing I like is movies. They are all great that’s why I can’t have a favorite, the way someone can tell a story about kids having fun or a crazy guy with a white mask killing teens is just so entertaining. In school I think there’s only one subject that I truly excel in and that’s music because it’s easy and I love everything about it. But there’s always that subject that just gets under my skin that I can’t stand and that’s history. I can’t get into to it with all the reading and names, terms; I think if history had a mind of its own it would want to kill me because I’m so bad at it. This year I’m going to try to improve my reading skills and try to get grades better than a C. When I’m in school I get asked where I’m from and what race I am. I would always say I’m Mexican American. I was born here but I’ll never loss the Mexican in me. That’s why Mexican comes before American. Ill never forget that I’m my own person and that’s how it should be for everyone. So I really can’t identify my ethnicity. I think my culture is special and unique because our families are close and are always making food like tacos and all those great Mexican dishes. There’s not really a lot I know about my culture but I would love to find out more. I can’t say that I find other cultures interesting because I don’t know much about any other culture but I would like to find out more about others as well as my own. There are a lot of things that I appreciate about being Mexican but I think the one I love and appreciate the most is how my family came not knowing the American ways but still made a living here by getting jobs and having families. What I appreciate about my American side is that living here gives me the chance I need to be what I want to be when I get older. I think in order to be your self you have to know and understand your identity. If you don’t understand your identity you can’t do anything because you don’t know what you want in your self. I think that when you can say whatever you want and not care what people think, you start to see the world in a whole new way. I see that everything that happens can always be changed to a good or bad thing if you really want it to. Anything you want can be yours if you just work hard to take it because no one is going to give it to you. I really think that humanity can learn from the past but you have to know people, you have to think about yourself. They might know that what they are doing is the right or wrong thing to do because of from their past but then they still do it. So they can learn but only if they choose to learn. People are always trying to get to that “American dream†but don’t learn from their past first. I think the American dream is just what it’s named a dream. I don’t really know what it means but I know it has something to do with money, now don’t get me wrong moneys great I love it but people think about it to much that they don’t see the real world around them. The only way I might have the opportunity to achieve this “American dream†is if I can do what I love the most and that’s music. So yeah I might have the opportunity but if I can’t do it while still doing what I love I don’t think I’m going to have that chance. I really only have two goals and that’s making it big with my band and trying to go to the marines. The way I think that I’ll be able to achieve these goals is by just working hard at it like I said before. I think ill really be good at being a marine. It’s great to just think that I can help America the land that is free and that gave me so many opportunities in my short life. You know some people live in entire life time and wonder if they have ever made a difference in the world. I don’t want to have that problem. That’s why I want to be a marine and I want to be who I am and not what people want me to be. So this was about me, but I think and hope that you understand what I was trying to say. Nothing is going to be given to you. You have to work and earn it.
