About Me

**Matty Woods Biography**From an early age singer songwriter Matty Woods has been consumed by music!!! Born and raised in Wollongong, young Matty was inspired by 1980's films about musicians real life or otherwise. At age three Matty received his first musical instrument for Christmas of 1987, a ukulele. Three years later Christmas brought an electric guitar. Matty immediately began to jam along with The Choir Boys,Johnny Deisel, and Jimi Hendrix albums at full volume.By ten years old Matty was a bona fide entertainer. Learning the ways of the rock from Doc Neeson himself AND the Brewster Brs, this experience in the industry was inspiration enough for Matty to take up guitar seriously!Matty immersed himself in the ethos of the garage band and punk rock. He grew his hair long, tore his jeans, partied hard, played harderrrrr! By the Summer of 98' Dave Grohl and his Bonham inspired drum riffs had Matty glued to his Nirvana videos and buying his first real drum kit (cherry red of course) with a Lud Wig snare which he uses still to this day.In 2000, Matty's high school fUNK/rock band Imodium, managed some recording time to experiment with compositions in the studio and work with experienced artists including members of Zambian Goat Herders and Skunkhour.More recently Matty's just wondered as a solo artist after High School. Inspired by the whole Jeff Buckley "sing in cafes and grow ideaology" writing, co-producing and learning how to make music all over again. A great deal of his energy went into funk soul jam band projects such as "the Pre-Loved" and "Phish Philosophy". While getting out amongst live music was an important part of the growth, expanding his record collection was vital too! The annual pilgrimage to the Byron Bay Blues n' Roots Festival had been a real eye opener, helping along the natural progression to "Roots" inspired music. Reggae making up a HUUGE part of the paletteAs you see today this dread locked roots maan has a message..a mission. Breaking down cultural/racial barriers, creating awareness about Australia's Indigenous affairs, thinking Global - acting local, Green energy sustainablitiy...the list is endless. They say change never comes with out a fire, and as Matty blazes his own trail, he's surely to burn a strong impression into Australia's consciousness.www.myspace.com/mattywoodsmusic
