Thania Sanz is an American-born, Venezuelan-raised singer / songwriter / guitarist now based in Miami and Los Angeles. She is a graduate of the Berklee College of Music where she was the recipient of a full scholarship for "Academic Excellence and Musical Achievement". While majoring in Performing Arts and Jazz Composition, she achieved many honors including the Boston Music Awards "Outstanding Latin Act" and placed second in "Outstanding Performance" in Berklee's prestigious songwriting competition.
Thania's vast experience includes credits as writer, producer and performer in studio, television, radio and advertising. Some of her clients have included the UNIVISION MUSIC GROUP who signed her to an exclusive deal as writer, performer and organizer of music talent for Latin events. Thania also wrote, produced and performed for the TELEMUNDO programs, "Me Caso Contigo" and "Dona Risa" and "Al Extito". In 2006, a track from her album, BOLEROS, TU ME RECUERDAS was placed in the FX Network program, "THE SHIELD". In 2008, Thania will have her first national TV production for Azteca America for the program, "AztePaca" where she will be writing, arranging, producing and performing all the music! In advertising, Thania's credits include jingles for Colgate, Herbal Essence and Palmolive to name a few.
Thania has traveled extensively as an performer. As lead singer of the Latin Jazz Orchestra, Chevere, she toured the USA, Canada, & Asia with Tito Puente. She has been the opening act for Pancho Sanchez, Marc Anthony, Ruben Blades, Marisa Monchi, Oscar D'Leon, Luis Enrique, Cheo Feliciano and Andy Montanez.
In the studio, Thania has collaborated with Joe Zawinul of Weather Report on his album, "My People", and received a Grammy nomination as lyricist and lead vocal on the track "Mi Gente" (available on iTunes). As a lyricist, her spanish translation of "Crying" was featured in the soundtrack for the David Lynch film, "Mulholland Drive". She also contributed two songs to "The Depraved" movie soundtrack as well as "Hollywood - The Latin Way", where she sings a beautiful rendition of "Color of the Wind" from "Pocahontas" (available on iTunes). Thania was co-writer on "Bailamos" for Alex Acuna and the Unknowns. Thania has also sung backup for Placido Domingo, Luis Miguel, Xuxa, Simone, and Martha Sanchez.
Independently, Thania has written, arranged, and produced four solo albums: BOLEROS, TU ME RECUERDAS, ENVIANDO SUENOS and her most recent album, ALAS PARA VOLVAR. She has also just completed a compilation CD, REGGAESON CON TUMBAO. On this particular CD, you can hear Thania's vocal work in many areas and ranges in this popular style. As a producer and writer, Thania loves to arrange for vocals and harmonies. She strives to defy labels in the commercial market and to develop and mature as a unique voice in the music business.
To see Thania perform live is to witness her virtuoso guitar skills, charisma, dynamic energy, and professionalism. It sweeps the audience away to a tropical party! Even those who don't speak Spanish are drawn into the welcoming warmth of her live shows. Thania is a seasoned pro who connects with her audience so comfortably that you feel that you're in her living room. Add to that her "pals" who just happen to be world class musicians, and you've got yourself an experience.
