Hello, I'm BRUCE VALANCE; the dude with the funky lead and rhythm guitar grooves. I am from the city of Indianapolis (Naptown), IN. I have traveled abroad to the Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, US Navy Base twice with one of the local bands here in Indianpolis, called "PROTOCOL" (having performed with its members for around 10 years or more). Note, however, that I am not a member of that band any longer. Anyhow, continuing on - First we played for the 229th year anniversary party of the base in October of 2004. Then, the captain of the base was so pleased with our performance that he invited us back to perform for one of their upcoming private new years parties of 2005.I also have, and continue to perform with other bands and musicians occasionally. In the fall of 1992, for about a year or less, I was the guitarist for Indianapolis' saxophonist extraordinaire, GREGG BACON and his band at the time. We named ourselves "THE NEW GROOVE". Man, those were some fun times. We opened up for several "chitlin' circuit" concerts. People like DENISE LASALLE and GENE CHANDLER to name a couple. One night, BRIAN McKNIGHT sat in with us when he was in town promoting his first album. In late September of 1995 I traveled to Los Angeles CA, for almost a month, to perform with a crew of musicians at the Los Angeles Theatre Center. We were part of the stage production, "TRAVIS TAYLOR'S DAUGHTER ROSE", a melo-drama. The name of the group directed by composer HANK JACOBS was called "ENSEMBROQUE". I played for a total of 6 shows. In the summer of 2004 I again traveled to Los Angeles CA to perform with Indianapolis native, ROBB HUNTER JR for his CD release party for his CD "CHANGING DIRECTIONS", which was held in Long Beach CA.In the spring 2005, I was privileged to perform with some of my musical mentors, the "EBONY RHYTHM BAND"! I played with them on there 35 year Reunion show, held here in Indianapolis IN. I also performed with them again in October of 2005. This was also a 35 year Reunion; however, it was of their later developed identity known as the "EBONY RHYTHM FUNK CAMPAIGN". Now, after a third performance with them on July 21, 2007, I am privileged to be adopted as an official member of the band! Wow! Keep your ears and eyes open; great things are in the planning!Occasionally, for several years now, I have also performed with a local funk-rock jam-band called "BLACKBERRY JAM".Sometimes I present my own performances as a one-man show or I hire other musicians to work with me as the "BRUCE VALANCE PROJECT".In April 2007, I was sent for to perform at B B KING'S night club in Universal City, CA. I performed with a funk band called "EVERBELOW", the group leader being noneother than ROBB HUNTER JR. This opened up new opportunities for us. A month later, in May 2007, I was sent for in order to perform with "EVERBELOW" once again, at the same place.
The band has now been invited back to be a part of the regular rotation of entertainment there. I wish you could've been there at either one of these shows. There was an awful lot of happy folks, if you know what I mean, just a dancing and having a real good time! Both performances! Those are two shows that I will always look back on and be proud of! Another couple of "notches in my belt" if you know what I mean!
