About Me

Preserve me, O God: for in thee do I put my trust. Psalm 16:1I am a 45 year old African-American Female I have been married for 24yrs this September and I have 5 children. 4 Boys and 1 girl . ages range from 23,20,17,13,and 6 yrs old. I give Honor and Glory to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for bringing me thus far.My Tumor was 2.2cm Er/Pr negative Her2/Neu/+Negative 2 nodes affected. I was given Taxatere,Cyclophosphanide, and Adriamycin from October 2004 until Feb. 2005 and then 33 days of radiation. BRCA1Gene Mutation results 4294delTIt was just a ordinary day when I had mentioned to my husband that I felt something in my left Breast and he said that I needed to make a Doctor appointment and have it checked out. I called my Sister who is also a Breast Cancer Survivor and told her and she said because of the history that I needed to get it checked out right away I said okay. But 2 weeks had gone by and I forgot to call the doctor until I felt it again when I was at work and leaned on my desk and felt it again I immediatly called the doctor and made my appointment. I first went to my GYN doctor and he sent me to get a mammogram and the tech there was not happy with what he saw, he at first thought that maybe I had hurt myself or was struck in the breast area very hard I explained to him that nothing had happened that I could remember because the last Mamogram did not show anything thing, now understand I have been getting Mamograms since I was 28 years old, My younger sister was diagnosed at 26 years old (she has an identical twin) So I was starting to get a little nervous. I took the test results back to my Doctor and he spoke to the Tech and he must have told him that it needed to be tested. So my Dr. explained to me that I needed to have a biospy done and he set up the appointment for me so that I would not have to wait a long period of time for the appointment, the Dr. he sent me too was very well known and booked. I got the appointment and went to his office for what I thought was a consulation, to my surprise the appointment was at night 8pm I thought was odd. I got there and spoke to the doctor he examined me and then took a sample of the tissue. This was on July 27th 2004. I got the results back the following week and the Dr. explained to me what kind of Cancer and How we were going to treat it. My surgrey was on September 8, 2004 and then treatment followed. Through my whole ordeal I made sure that I maintained a Positve attitude and a Faithful relationship with Christ. I make sure that I do what I am supposed to do to stay healthy. This past November when I went for my check up with my surgeon he insisted that I set up an appointment with a Genetic Counseler because My Grandmother on my Father's side died of Breast Cancer and I have sisters that are identical twins with Breast cancer, and my father with prostrate cancer the history was to strong. another obstacle in the way. I said okay let's get this done and find out my fate. would't you know the test came back and I have the BRCA1 Gene Mutation and it put me at risk for Ovarian Cancer, test were done and no signs that anything was wrong. Surgrey was scheduled for June 4,2007 I had a Bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. It is a week later and I feel good a little sore but Blesed and THANKFUL that when they tested my ovaries and tubes they tested NEGATIVE for CANCER. Plan of action Monthy Breast Self examines , Clinical breast examination every 6 months and concurrent Mammogram and breast MRI every 12 months. I want to Thank My Sisters Wanda and Quanda for being there for me and preparing for me in advance of all the the things that i had to endure. My Husband for sharing my illness with me. For my children who gave me strength and inspired me to want to keep on keeping on. I currently am a member of the Sister's Surviving Inc. of Baltimore, Md. You know we go through life not really knowing who we are , where we are really from. I mean not the state that we were born in, not that we do not know are immediate family. But who are are ancestors...
