About Me

ModMySpace Profile Customizer
Gia Carangi was just a girl born in Philadelphia, January 1960. She then went on to become one of the top models of the late 1970's & early 1980's, gracing the covers of Cosmopolitan and Vogue, partying at New York's Studio 54 and the Mudd Club, and redefining the industry's standard of beauty.
Gia was also a girl in pain, desperate for her mother's approval and a drug addict on a tragic slide toward devastation. Gia went directly from $10,000-a-day fashion shoots to the heroin shooting galleries on New York's Lower East Side. Finally blackballed from modeling, Gia entered a vastly different world on the streets of New York and Atlantic City, and later in a rehab clinic. At twenty-six, she became one of the first women in America to die of AIDS, a hospital welfare case visited only by rehab friends and what remained of her family. This page is a tribute to her, one of the most beautiful women who ever lived.

"A model has to create moods. You have to be careful not to get stuck in a mood - emotions have trends just like fashion."
"How am I supposed to feel beautiful if they give me an ugly dress, plastic jewelry and an atrocious hairdo that's so tight it could cause brain damage?"
"You have to be a magician and make it work. Sometimes I've felt like running out of a shoot - I had to contain myself - but the pictures turned out nice. Often the idea that you don't look good is all in your head.""Stay away from TV. It has non stop junk food ads and everything looks great."
"It's hard to live up to that image. When I get out of work, I throw on a T shirt, jeans and my sneaks just to get back down to earth."
"Modeling is a short gig - unless you want to be jumping out of washing machines when you're thirty!"
