The Jersey Devil was born in Leed's Point, NJ, just out side the Pine Barrens on the Atlantic Coastline. Here is what went wrong:
His mother, Mrs. Leeds, was the greatest person and never truly meant any harm to any of her children. Since he was born in the year of 1735, there were no forms of birth control and his mother just kept on having children. Before he was conceived, she had just had her twelfth baby. This is when she decided that it was all she was going to have. After she decided that, she found out she was pregnant with yet another child. She did not mean to cause any harm to him, it was just that she had already had twelve children. So she said "I am tired of children, let the devil take this one." Because of this unknown spell that she has now casted on her unborn baby, it was transformed from human to the son of the devil. But because the devil really doesn't have a look, the worst combination of animals put together was the result of this hidious child. At birth, she was embarrased to present this newborn, so she locked him up in the attic. This is where he grew but not much (only 3'7") and with many deformities. He had the hoove's and head of a horse, legs of a crane, and wings of a bat. As he matured, he became more devil like and less like a human. So now he was thinking as an animal and no longer as a human being. As he got older, bigger, and stronger, he soon broke out of the attic and attacked all that lived in that house. He only killed a few of his brothers and sisters and then escaped into the woods of the Pine Barrens. and that is now where he is supposed to live and has lived for the past 271 years. In 2007, it will be his 272nd year in Jersey.
Sitings have always been reported throughout his life and many different descriptions have been provided. But the most common and popular is the one stated above. The pine barrens is not the only place that he has been sited. It has been said that he flys over the Delaware river and into Philadelphia. Sitings have been reported in both Philadelphia and over the Delaware river.
Although he has been sitted constantly since he was born, there is one year that he was sited the most on record. It was the year of 1909 and in the month of January between the 16th and 23rd day. All throughout that week, people saw his tracks in the snow. You may be thinking his feet were hooves and it may have been a deer, but you go find me a deer that that can make foot prints on rooftops and random places in the snow as if something landed from flight, walked a little while, and then the tracks just ended as if they took off agian. The first witnessed attack of the Devil also happened this week in Camden, Nj were a dog was attacked and mostly eaten right infront of the owner. By the end of the week, the entire state was in a panic and offices, schools, and businesses were closed. People locked themselves in their own houses worried of being atacked.
As of now, there are many legends of the devil and many books, magazines, articles, and even Tv show and movies based upon the Devil.
