Sky Shark

About Me

Sky Shark is a solo electronic project by Mack Lawrenz. Using a heavily souped-up Casio DG-20 MIDI guitar, a bass case full of MIDI modules and a looping pedal, Sky Shark fills the shoes of an entire band while transporting audiences to a better time. That time is roughly 1992, when Whitney Houston and Sega Genesis ruled supreme. Covers of various themes from Sonic the Hedgehog 2, a vocoder-ed out cover of W.H.'s 'How Will I Know', original songs, and selections from various Super Mario titles and Street Fighter 2 are all staples at a Sky Shark show.Recently, with the acquisition of a Boss wireless sampler (SP-202), Sky Shark has expanded into the medium of remixing and DJing. Unusual mashups like 2008's 'Harder, Better, Faster, Matlock' are the result, and keep your ears peeled for an upcoming Yaz/NBA Jam mashup! You can catch Sky Shark every Tuesday night at the Cameron House, 408 Queen St. W., in the front room, at 8:45PM. PWYC. This is the MIDI guitar set. Also, every Wednesday night at Project Project, an improv comedy show at Unit 102, which is at 42 Noble Street, at Queen & Brock, in Parkdale, Toronto, Canada. 10PM, pwyc. This shorter set is a series of weekly remixes presented live on a wireless sampling system.
