My name is Sam Birrell a.k.a. Samuel James a.k.a DJ 313. I am 31 and live in Crawley ,England a town which since day one has had links worldwide to the Techno and House music scene. With Djs like Lee Purkis (INSYNC)& Alex Knight (FATCAT) both hailing from the town,(and playing a big part in influencing my style of mixing and the varied music I play in my sets) it comes as no surprise that Djing was going to be one of my biggest passions.From a very early age I was being inspired musically with my parents always playing music around the house (everything from Roxy Music and Motown right through to Rock and Roll) so it wasn't long before I started to collect my own tunes ,mostly early hip hop and elektro with the odd classic chart tune popping up now and again ,then one day while sitting around a friends house I was introduce to the glorious world of house music and I haven't looked back since! I started to borrow mix tape's that had been done by the likes of Eddie Richards,Femi B, Lee Purkis, Mr C, Rob Aceston and occasionally some very rare Derrick May radio station tapes (WJLB) all of these have inspired me musically and technically .And all by the age of Thirteen. It took me a while before i could i buy a set of decks but at the age of 17 i managed to get a very scruffy set up which only cost £70 . The decks where both belt drive but two completely different decks (one with a pitch so fast you mix hip hop with techno with no problems) but i soldiered on.It wasn't long before i had the confidence and the knowledge before i started spinning at every opportunity availble. But with some setbacks on the way it has been a long time coming for me to get the right break so with the aid of a P.C it wasnt long before i discovered the Web which has given me the chance to share, and promote my djing and the parties that (with the aid of some close friends) i'll be playing and promoting.
