About Me

Men Working Overhead
Geoff Leigh, saxophonist/flutist of HENRY COW-fame, and Tom Zunk, percussionist, Waterphone virtuoso and half of GHETTO RAGA from Berlin, met 2002 in Brighton where Tom was participating at “Streets Of Brighton” with his partner, dancer and video artist Elke Postler and their performance project SYNTRON.
A year later during their second stay and appearance at the same festival - on both occasions Geoff had accompanied SYNTRON..s surreal street performance with his humour and flute playing – Geoff and Tom decided to seriously work together and thus established MEN WORKING OVERHEAD.
MWO..s music encompasses all possibilities of spontaneous music and instant composing. Lyrical melodies on flutes are contrasted by fierce saxophone attacks and microtonal glissandi from the Waterphone.
Years of engagement in African influenced groove music give Geoff..s style a warm feeling that is congenial met by Tom..s archaic drumming style which is far from being ethnic but radically conceptual, reduced and hypnotic.
Their interaction breathes an intuitive sureness about the others reaction and they achieve unbelievable levels of synchronicity amd perfectly matching fantasies that you would only expect from artists that have worked together for a long time. They are indeed sharing the same musical spirit.
MWO have done three recording sessions and four gigs. During his Berlin stay in November 2003 Geoff also joined GHETTO RAGA for two gigs. These recordings are documented on "Teeth", one of GR..s unreleased productions of live recordings.
MEN WORKING OVERHEAD have produced one high-quality documentary CD-R with live and studio material recorded in 2003 which has not been commercially released. Document number two, recorded 2004 in Hastings, carries the last of their recordings.
