About Me

Ronnie King (bassist, guitarist, singer, songwriter, TV producer, writer and humourist) is the most outgoing, communicative member of The Stampeders - one of Canada's top rock groups of the early '70's.With his easy going and happy-go-lucky nature, he is the biggest salesman for The Stampeders in terms of stage presence, mystique and persona. The group left their home base of Calgary Alberta in 1966, and went on to tour extensively in Canada, the U.S., Europe and South America. In 1971, they won JUNO AWARDS (Canada's equivalent to THE GRAMMY) for 'BEST GROUP', 'BEST SINGLE' (for their platinum hit "Sweet City Woman"), 'BEST PRODUCER' and 'BEST COMPOSER'. Between 1971 and 1976, they recorded ten albums, with many reaching gold and platinum status.Three of their songs entered the Top 30 in the U.S. and twelve of their singles charted top-ten in Canada. Their other hits include: "Carry Me", "Devil You", "Wild Eyes", "Minstrel Gypsy", "Oh My Lady", "New Orleans", "Monday Morning Choo Choo", "Keep Me Running Wild", "Then Came The White Man" and "Hit The Road Jack". see www.stampeders.netRonnie sang lead vocals on "Hit The Road Jack" and was already fast friends with Wolfman Jack, especially after the recording was released. He also wrote and sang lead vocals on "Then Came the White Man" as well as "Me and My Stone", "Bring the House Down", and "Sweet Love Bandit". The theme song of his own television show "Playing in the Band" was also the last top- twenty hit The Stampeders had in 1977.Although The Stampeders are still touring together, Ronnie has been working on a solo project as well, pumping out demos to interested ears. The Stampeders are also planning on recording a new CD in the near future. In the meantime, we hope you enjoy the new tracks as they are posted on this page.
