Not exactly your father’s country music. Johnny Cash. Waylon Jennings. David Allan Coe. Merle Haggard. The names of the artists on the set lists look like they could be on the play list of a Classic Country station, but when you hear Flat Top Junction's show, you will know that they are served up with a heavy helping of country rock influence.Shawn Blackmore is a singer/guitarist that was raised on all the classic country music of the 60's and 70's. “I wanted to play the music I grew up listening to sittin' around my kitchen table and camp fires. When the music was real and no died haired pretty boys".Kevin Bethune is a multi intstrumentalist with a passion for live music. His creativity and experience is a definate asset to the band along with drummer Devon Turnbull. " We have alot of fun together" says Turnbull, " and that spills out into the crowd", he continues.It’s not all country classics for this Paris-based band though. Newer artists like Hank Williams III, Dierke Bentley and Shooter Jennings are also part of the show. “There are a number of newer country acts out there who are really carrying on the great traditions started by musicians like Johnny, Hank Jr. and Waylon. We just want to continue that on for people who may not know about these artists", says Bethune.All being said, a night of music with Flat Top Junction will leave you humming along with the old songs and remembering yesteryear once more.
