Shauna Young could properly hold and manipulate a microphone before she could walk. As a girl, Shauna sat cross-legged in her bedroom and sang along to her Pat Benetar, Bonnie Raitt, and Mariah Carey CDs, using them as vocal coaches. She worked with a few vocal trainers who were eager to mold the promising talent into a flash-in-the-pan trend rather than developing a lasting vocal powerhouse with unique songwriting capabilities. Instead, Shauna mimicked an array of artists and developed her own sound, a trademark blend of smoky soul-meets-polished pop voice.People first took notice of the spirited blonde after she commanded stages and swept every vocal competition she entered. Shauna recently won Z 107.7’s St. Louis Pop Star Contest and afterwards was invited to open for P. Diddy and various other pop artists at the popular Summer Jam concert in front of over 20,000 people. Now at 21-years-old, Shauna’s determination to develop her abilites and craft her own sound has paid off. She’s poised to release her first EP, recorded with Chris Loesch and Doug Firley of Shock City Music Works. “In The Key Of Pink” is a modern collection of four smartly-written, warm and soulful country-pop tracks. “I am in love with my new EP,” Shauna says. “I feel that it's the best work that I have ever done and I’m so proud of it! I hope that people enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed making it!”She sings on her lead track, “Put My Life in Drive”:“I’m gonna drive just as far as I can, Gonna find out who I am. For way to long I’ve been afraid to face the great unknown …”If the burgeoning buzz is any indication, she’s about to succeed.
