I am gas gangrene also known as Myonecrosis and Clostirdial infection of tissues.I am caused by:
- Clostridium bacteria that under low oxygen produces toxins that cause the death of tissue and other related symptoms.I am diagnosed by:
(1) A gram stain of fluid from the infected area that shows gram positive rods( clostridium species)or other types of bacteria.
(2) a culture may grow the bacteria causing the infection
(3) blood cultures may grow the infecting bacteria
(4) anaerobic tissue or fluid may reveal Clostridium species
(5) an MRI, CT scan, or X- ray can show the gas in the tissueThe length of my incubation period:
- I average 24 hrs, but I've been reported to incubate from 1 hr. to 6 weeks
