Atomic Pop hostess, Jo Bliss, worked for the Cavern Club for seven years on the door, taking the entrance money and insulting the punters. One day, 3 years ago, the owner asked her if she would have a go at dj-ing as there was a show coming up that he knew she had the perfect collection for. She was petrified, but it went well. The night has been under various guises, Revolution for example, before ending at Atomic Pop. Jo wanted to call it 'Death Disco', but Alan McGee already got in first. It has played host to many bands including Goldie Lookin' Chain, The Ordinary Boys, Part Chimp, Crack Village, The Milk Teeth, 65daysofstatic and far too many more to remember. It's always worth checking out. You could be seeing next weeks music press darlings! Accompanied by some stunning and sometimes frightening visuals, courtesy of The Media Lounge chappies, she does not believe in musical snobbery and will play anything that's upbeat and sometimes songs that are slightly silly. Anything from Joy Division to Girls Aloud, Cable to Queen - it's all there. It features one Saturday a month, with various bands and a party atmosphere. Check back for forthcoming listings. NB* AP is also available for your party/wedding/Bar Mitzvah etc.Review from Bloggerfrog: Atomic Pop, is the club night run by Jo Bliss, long term participant in the Exeter music scene, and her eclectic yet unashamedly pop dj'ing means everyone can come together and party from such a diverse range of people. It is truly an amazing atmosphere. A night that has built up over time, and is respected throughout the South-West it does the night justice to have a sold out venue, yet again. Tracks played in no particular order include…Led Zeppelin - Whole Lotta Love
Elvis Costello - Oliver's Army
Girls Aloud - Sound Of The Underground
Adam Ant - Prince Charming
Fratellies - Chelsea daggerother tracks played include.....Beyonce - Bloc Party - Justin Timberlake - The KooksAlas there was no Jilted John, B52s or Pig Bag, but I was pretty drunk and got up on stage and danced with Jo for Adam Ant. I LOVE ATOMIC POP.
