About Me

Counterclockwise is a diverse fusion of hip hop, punk, trip hop, drum & bass and rock having performed in NY at the CBGB’s. The Village Underground, the Hammerstein Ballroom, The Parkside Lounge, The Viper Room in LA and in Cleveland, B-Side, Grog Shop, Peobody’s and Platinum Dreams. Additionally, Counterclockwise was created by the raw emotions of 2 artists united by their love of music and the hip hop culture consisting of the raw genius talent of mr. Burns and the earthbound sounds of bassist & vocalist; Kaya. Beck’s DJ and the 1996 winner of the US Supremacy DJ battle; DJ Swamp scratches on several tracks. Completed albums include; ‘Out of Order’, ‘Black on Black Crime’ and ‘Behind the Moon’. They have written numerous other songs and have created over 200 beats. Mr. Burns; the lead singer, aka Doug Johnson was born and raised in Cleveland and has been in the rap game since he was a young adult, having produced and forming many groups including in 1997-1998 the 7th Plague rap group’s album ‘Crown of Thorns’ under his and Ryan Lessam’s created record label; Grand Lie Records, along with Beck’s DJ and the 1996 winner of the US Supremacy DJ battle; Dj Swamp and sold 8,000 copies. In 1999, Doug formed and produced electro trip hop group; Prom Queen and won the “Best Avant-Garde” Award in Scene Magazine and sold 15,000 copies. In 2000, he formed and produced underground hip hop cutting edge group; Combination Unsolved, producing their album: Hat Trick. In 2001-2005, Doug Johnson moved to New York City heading to New York University’s film school producing music for the TV Show; Skate Maps airing on spike TV. Additionally, he produced the entire score for the full-length feature film; Love Rome directed by Carter B. Smith; staring Angela bettis, Belinda Becker, Tariq Trotter aka Black Thought of the Roots, Drea Dematteo of the Sopranos and Dean Winters. Other movie soundtrack credits include short films; Black Out directed by Brad Lowery and Shoot Out directed by Roderick. While in New York, he also produced the album: Yellow Wolf for Yellow Wolf who was part of the cast of Missy Elliot’s reality TV show and produced the for Safiya (MC from queens) and The Spiks (Hip Hop group from the Bronx). Mr. Burn’s also has engineering experience working at many New York’s famous studio’s including Chung King’s Studio, Quad Studios, the Hit Factory and Padded Room Studios.
