My broad musical tastes began at a young age, and after years of consuming dance music and being consumed by it, I continued this natural progression by becoming a (bedroom) DJ in 2002.
Over the years I've taught myself various styles of mixing and learnt how to perfect my own style. I've always thought the key to creating "that perfect set" is to try and create something new, something which no-one has heard before. That's why I use acapellas, effects, breaks, samples - anything I can find to try and create a vibe, whilst still showing some character behind the decks. I'm unafraid to drop any tune, once I have the crowd exactly where I want them.
Ever since hearing the 2 Many DJs album and exploring into the bootlegging/mashup/bastard pop scene I've had a love for taking both popular and obscure tracks and bringing them together in a way that I can apply to the dancefloor. More recently; I've taken to my own production, with a number of remixes in the pipeline. Combined with the increasing popularity of my podcasts, 2007 is set to be an interesting year ahead. There's no better feeling than dropping one of your own works into a set and seeing the crowd go wild to it, and hopefully this year will bring more of those moments.
When I'm not DJing or working in the studio, you'll probably find me out and about round the pubs and clubs somewhere in the Midlands/South West/South Wales. There's such a good choice to be had; Nightingales in Birmingham has some of the funkiest music around - split across three floors, Exit and Club X in Cardiff gives friendly clubbers, refreshing music and attitude-free DJs to the gay scene, Queenshilling in Bristol provides funky music in a smaller clubbing environment, yet still with the same "buzzing" atmosphere to be expected in a large city. And then of course London isn't all that far away - make the effort to go to Formula, you won't be disappointed!
My music genre is an eclectic mixture of chunky, funky vocal house, dirty basslines and some dancefloor smashing twisted electro. You'll also find me "mashing up" tracks live, adding that extra bit to my own distinctive style.
