Handcrafted Comfort - Downbeat Magazine---------------With many well-known manufacturers marketing hollow-body archtops, it's always a breath of fresh air to find under-the-radar independent luthiers who are building high-quality archtops as a labor of love.
Danche Ivanovic is a case in point.
Operating from his suburban workshop in west suburban Chicago, Danche archtop guitars are superbly handcrafted from European Spruce (top) and Tiger Maple (back and sides) with maple neck, as well as ebony for the fingerboard, bridge, tailpiece, pickguard, neck and body purfling, and volume control. The overall result, in combination with flatwound strings and a Benedetto pickup floating in the neck position, is a warm straighahead jazz tone that sings with sustain, making the Danche archtops virtually effortless to play. Testing two Danche archtops--one a slightly smaller--bodied guitar with a reddish-orange flamed spruce top, the other a slightly heavier blond-finished guitar- I found the necks to be both fast and comfortable to the touch. Intonation and setup on both guitars were near perfection.
