The family transferred to Washington D.C. when she was a year-and-a-half old, at the age of six the family was then stationed in the Philippines, finally settling in Honolulu, Hawaii when she was eight. De Ponte was publicly schooled with the exception of her early English overseas education. De Ponte graduated with honors in her junior year through an accelerated gifted student program received no formal training and is noted as a gifted prodigy.A young woman adventurer, at 29, a single mother of two she packed herself and family off to Italy to pursue her dream of photography and accomplished much more.De Ponte modeled periodically, but found she was more interested in the other side of the camera. She began working as a photographer in earnest in 1990. She worked in Paris at Elle Studios alongside such greats as photographer Jean Louis Sieff and Patrick Demarchelier who mentored and inspired her to shoot in black-and-white, opening up a whole new level for her work.In 1996, De Ponte took the next step and moved to New York to continue her career in commercial and high fashion editorial. De Ponte traveled between Maui, NY and Europe for many years, has been published in over 200 fashion editorials and campaigns over the years.In 1998 she left an established Fashion career shooting for European clients such as Harper’s Bazaar Italy & Versace to fulfill a deeper dream. Utilizing her talents to a higher purpose through the following endeavors.Founding the non-profit organization, G.A.I.A., utilizing her talents to preserve and aid the fight to protect the environment, and cultural diversity. Trekking harsh terrain’s elements and even authorities to bring about greater awareness of our earth’s disappearing beauty in the G.A.I.A. photography books – “GAIA I Journey Into Vanishing Worlds” and “GAIA II Song of the Vanishing Tribes”.De Ponte founded GLOBAL ART IN ACTION, in the hope of inspiring awareness and change regarding critical issues facing our world today. Her first project was released in 2000, a fine art photography book, consisting of 244 toned images shot in eight bio-diverse “hotspots” - areas in danger of irreversible destruction with vital resources facing complete extinction. G.A.I.A. donated the proceeds from the book, GAIA I, “Journey Into Vanishing Worlds” to Conservation International’s Campaign To Save The Hotspots, and their individual programs with the areas documented, in hopes of educating indigenous cultures in the affected areas on sustainable development and birth control.2002 brought the release of GAIA II, “ Song of the Vanishing Tribe” an exotic blend of photographic collages depicting the grace and beauty of vanishing tribes blending over 500 toned images and poetry. “GAIA II Song of the Vanishing Tribe” won the top publishing award in the spirituality category from the Publisher Marketing Association and was nominated for the prestigious “Nautilus Award.” De Ponte donated books and proceeds from GAIA II to the areas and tribes photographed.Since 1993, De Ponte continues to exhibit works from her travels in Germany, Milan, New York and Hawaii. De Ponte will often expand her photographic medium for exhibition into multi-media Trip-tic’s and murals that often reach over twenty feet in length; combining wax, plaster, acrylics, and photographs which depict over 80 areas and tribes in 30 countries around the world... De Ponte co-directed, a short film “ResCue” which instantly brought on an opportunity to re-experience the world of fashion and Rock and Roll. Directing a documentary on “Courtney Love’s, New Album in the Making”.However De Ponte yearned to return to more meaningful projects and the wild open spaces, so she journeyed back to her beloved Africa to write, direct and produce two documentaries. “Xai Xai Voice of Our Ancestors” was nominated for several awards and won the “Best Documentary Award” a film industry critiqued “Action Cut Film Competition”. She also finalized research and began writing an animated film “ THE JOURNEY”.De Ponte then directed an extreme sports straight to DVD movie, Tropical Energy Challenge. This experience helped define and inspired her work to an even higher level. De Ponte’s passion now is to combine real life situations ( stories inspired by actual events) into “moving” films that not only entertain but also carry inspiring messages with very high commercial value. De Ponte also strives to work with professionals in the industry who achieve the same integrity.De Ponte continues her charity work and sits on the board of FM World Charities, donates her work to various endeavors including, African Rainforest Conservancy, A.C.E. for the Homeless in NY and the Farm Sanctuary. Each project I am involved in has an underlying message or theme as most directors do, my hope is to donate some percentage to a particular non profit cause and area as the film depicts.“I have always felt that my talent and experiences have a higher purpose, film offers the maximum medium and exposure.
