About Me

I played drums for several metal/hardcore bands throughout high school when the Hardback was still around including Zol,B.F.I.,and Disrespect.Coming from that background and soon finding myself with no band and nowhere to put my drums because of some legal problems with other band members and people moving,I basicaly gave it a break for a year or so.On March 23rd 1997 a DJ brought his turntables over for a house party and I had never even considered turntables as a way to make music. This was the first time I had ever even seen anyone mix records but from the moment I saw that I knew thats what I wanted to do so I stepped to him and asked if he would explain what he was doing. He Showed me the basics of beatmatching and using the headphone cueing on the mixer as well as the faders, how to count beats and that was generally it.After his set he went home and crashed and left all his equipment set up and gave me permission to use it with much care while he was gone.I latched on to it real quick and and played around for about 3 hours trainwrecking mixes while the rest of the house slept and was completly hooked.About a month later I picked up a cheap ass belt drive automatic turntable with a pitch control and gutted the automation out of it.My dad had an old Realistic 2 channel mixer that had left and right faders for each channel,no crossfader and it took a 9volt battery but he gave it to me.I bought a pair of Technics slipmats for 12 dollars at a local record store and a friend gave me a Miami Vice soundtrack record to mess with since I actually had no vinyl.I would play a tape or CD and then try to mix over it but nothing I really had would mix with the songs on the vinyl so thats when my love for scratching was born.I grabbed a vocal from the one hip-hop song on the soundtrack and tried to scratch it over other things but the crabby belt drive table would drag and it just never really sounded good.I traded some old drum set parts I had to a guy for his crappy turntables,$50 gemini scratch mixer and about 12 records,a couple being hip-hop doubles a couple months later and gutted those as well and learned to put start stop buttons in them.I played with them for a couple months and one day came to the realization that I wasn't gonna quit DJ'ing and I needed a set of 1200's so I got a job and bought a pair at the beginning of 1998.I had also bought a Gemini PS-924 19" 4 channel mixer with a sampler on it so I build a monster ass velvet lined coffin, started buying progressive house records and taking my setup to house parties and getting down.On December 21st 1998 I played my first club gig in Orlando at Fluid and while the crowd was kind of slim I got to play my records through a bangin system and had a light tech next to me running the lightshow,it was great. In the next 6 months I played 4 more club gigs and had managed to get a spot on a local radio mixshow several times called The Perimeter.I then became one of four Perimeter Resident DJ's for about 2 years while doing more parties mostly and playing breaks, getting away from the progressive house and getting interesting in drum n bass/scratch stuff.I think I officially turned to the darkside on April 24th 2000 when I mixed a dark DnB scratch Cd at Skylab Recording Studios called M-104.I had also been working with a live breakbeat, electrofunk group for the last 2 years called Sunrise Society and we had managed to get 2 tracks pressed to vinyl and things were looking good.In 2001 we got booked at a local party with Craze and Huda Hudia that was raided by the sherrifs office,They passed an anti-rave law here that said clubs had to close at 2 am on the same weekend and I guess they decided to make an example of our party.Shortly after that a record label owner went to jail for drugs and a band member had to relocate out of state so Sunrise Society was put on hold.I continued playing DnB at the Perimeter and a Simons and The Florida Theater till about 2004 when I decided to take a break from DJ'ing for awhile.I was sick of shady promoters and the general vibe of the scene here, plus I just felt that I was getting burnt out on it and wanted to save what interest I still had in it.In the end of September 2006 I broke the 1200's back out,got a new set of needles and started ordering records online. They had been wanting to book me on the Perimeter for the last 2 years so I returned up there to get back in touch with everyone and booked a show on December 17th 2006...7 years after my first club gig.I'm back and I'm mad as hell I don't hear anyone scratch anymore,I'm so sick of house music and mp3 CDJs I could puke so I'm bringin back the dark wax with the cuts !!!
