The Umbrella Policy was started in early September of 2006, in the basement of Thomas Nash. Chad, Justin and Zach decided to pick up some acoustic guitars and mess around, after a few hours the first song The Umbrella Policy ever wrote was started. The song Gatsby was based on the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel The Great Gatsby and soon to follow was the song Saints Are Just Sinners with Good Poker Faces, these two songs would be the first song to be heard when The Umbrella Policy performed at the Frontier Academy talent show in mid October 2006.
The Umbrella Policy recorded their first demo in early November at Aims recording studio, produced by Ben Harris. This demo was very rough, Zach had lost his voice and Justin and Chad were both sick but the demo was still enjoyed by the people who heard it.
The New Year came and The Umbrella Policy fought hard to get booked, and low and behold this work payed off. The trio got a few shows at 3j's and The Depot as well as being asked to open for Tickle Me Pink at Every Day Joes. The band began to make plans to record again in April, but in mid February those plans changed completley. Chad had made plans to leave the band to attend Biola University in California. This changed plans for The Umbrella Policy entirely.
In the later part of January 07 the band decided to add a drummer, and they looked no further than where their band had started, they asked Thomas Nash (who's house the band was conceived in) to play with them.
They began writing more agressive and intense songs, leaving the old Umbrella Policy behind. The band knew they needed a bass player, but were worried about adding another memeber, and hurting the bands chemistry. However the perfect person showed up, and The Umbrella Policy added Michael Unruh on bass. He instantly clicked with the band, and they have been writing songs with him since them, bettering their live performance with every show. The band plans to have a new EP out in a few months, to show those who havent seen them live, what they are all about.
