About Me

Roberto Vally started playing the acoustic bass at the age of nine and began to play the electric bass at eleven. Roberto later attended New York’s “High School of Music & Art”, sharing "practice rooms" with the likes of Omar Hakim, Bobby Broom, and Marcus Miller. While in high school, Roberto studied with Classical bassist professor, Homer Mensch, at the "Julliard School". After graduating high school, Roberto left New York and toured with various ensembles, traveling all over the East Coast and Europe, always eager to listen and learn different styles of music. It was quite an education. In 1987 he joined the group 'Spyro Gyra', touring and recording the CD "Stories Without Words". Roberto later toured the U.S. and Japan with Michael Franks, and was then asked by Bobby Caldwell to join his ensemble. Roberto is still currently performing with Bobby, and also performs with Paul Brown and Michael Lington, to name just a few. Roberto had been the musical director, bassist and writing partner with Randy Crawford for over a decade. He continues to be sought after, as both a session and touring musician. He especially enjoys producing and co-writing. On the personal side, Roberto is married and has four wonderful and healthy children. When not making music, he loves surfing. If not splashing about in the ocean, he is probably in the kitchen cooking.......... MyGen Profile Generator

"I was born to be a sideman and I'll probably die a sideman.  But, hey&that's just fine with me.  If I can play and write, I'll always be happy."
