HotFreeLayoutsI believe that we are defined by moments in our life when we grow, change, and learn. My first defining moment was one week out of high school. I left the United States for Central America during the "war on drugs". I survived the poverty and the guns to survey a world thru new eyes. In Memphis, I worked in a "for profit" psych hospital and bartended in a forgotten section of downtown. I embraced friends as my family and witnessed the evils and angles of racism and classism. In Austin the first time, I learned that I was O.K. with just being myself and wished to persue a sustainable lifestyle. In Baton Rouge, I returned to school to do graduate work in sustainable landscapes and thought that I knew love for a lifetime. In New Orleans, I learned of home renovation in real time and that evil can live just below the surface in your closest friends and lovers. Back in Austin, I hope to find optimism again. Like the Phoenix, to rise to new and brighter futures.
