About Me

I'm a singer and composer in the contemporary jazz field. As well as performing with ensembles like The Heritage Orchestra, I perform with my own bands, singing my original material and re-setting jazz standards. I have just graduated from the jazz course at Guildhall School of Music and Drama as a composer and singer (orchestral music on my other page). Recent performances with The Heritage Orchestra include London Jazz Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival and The Big Chill, following the album launch at Hackney Empire in June. My sextet most recently performed at the HMS President for this year’s City of London Festival, my newly formed quintet made a debut performance at the sang at the 606 Club earlier this year. We do perform some of my original songs, but mostly fresh and re-harmonised derrangements of standards and other songs (to satisfy the jazz singer within), in particular songs by Matt Dennis. Famous for Angel Eyes and Everything Happens To Me, Dennis wrote many fantastic songs, and I've enjoyed finding and arranging some of these (to satisfy the composer within). Of these, Will You Still Be Mine, When You Love A Fella, and The Night We Called It A Day are here to listen to, I hope you enjoy! * - * - * - * - * - * - * - * - * - * - * - * - * - * - * - * - * - * - * - * - * - * - * - * - * - * - *“Clare is a rarity amongst singer-songwriters for she is considerably more than that. Not only is she an improvising singer, both literate and expressive, but she is a composer/lyricist of considerable scope. Her influences are wide and varied and she attracts instrumentalists of the highest calibre who play with equal depth and understanding. Clare has found her own voice - in every sense - and she is developing into a musician with a clear concept and a remarkable freshness in her sound”. Pete Churchill, composer, singer/pianist.

Matt Dennis...

Matt Dennis seems to be classed as a "lounge singer", but this seems far too smooth and bland a term for this man. Think more, Frank Sinatra meets Tom Lehrer. Yep, that's it. Perhaps his legacy is mor...
