Memphis House Concerts

About Me

Hey y'all. So we were sitting around over several beers one night getting pissed off that Nashville gets all the good shows and most of our favorite singer/songwriters tend to skip over Memphis because...well venue attendance for acoustic based musicians sucks in this town. IMHO So someone who had one brain cell left suggested we start hosting our own damn concerts. And that what's we're doing...so there. We are going to try to bring Memphis the cream of the crop of singer/songwriter types. This is a "listening environment" so y'all hush. So far we've had:
Jeff Black - Aug 2006 Jeff Holmes (from the Floating Men) - Aug 2006 Dave Insley - Feb 2006 Peter Bradley Adams - Dec 2006 Dave Berg w/ Drew Holcomb opening - Feb 2007 Mack Starks w/ Kim Richardson opening - Mar 2007 Tom Prasada-Rao & Cary Cooper aka The Dreamsicles - May 2007 Cliff Eberhardt - June 2007 Colin Boyd w/Rice Drewry- June 2007 Clare Burson July 2007 Bob Sima August 2007 Tom Kimmel w/Kate Klim - Dec 2007 Mark Stewart & Stacey Earle - Jan 2008 Jeff Black w/Noah Earle - Feb 2008 Jeff Holmes of The Floating Men - Apr 2008 Kate Klim - June '08 Noah Earle w/Louis Ledford - June '08 Krista Detor - July '08 Kevin Welch w/Dan Montgomery - Aug '08 Sara Hickman w/ Kim Richardson Sept '09 Creede Williams and Alex Woodard - Dec '08 Gretchen Peters w/Kim Richardson - Jan '09 Freebo w/Tori Sparks - Feb '09 Will Kimbrough w/Stephen Simmons - April '09
and coming up are:
Adrianne Peter Bradley Adams Audrey Auld Robby Hecht Tom Kimmel Bob Sima
If you have played the Bluebird, Eddie's Attic, Cactus Cafe, The Ark, The Living Room (NY), Freight & Salvage, or the main stage at Kerrville, we are interested in hearing from you. Make no mistake, it's a damn good gig.
And if you happen to be a really huge star that needs to try out new material, we'll be happy (?) to listen. Dar, Patty, Nanci, EmmyLou, Radney, John Gorka, Cheryl Wheeler- we are standing by the phone ready to take your call.SO Y'ALL COME!!!SHOW DETAILS
Door(s) at 7pm

Information For Musicians

I give credit to Concerts on Bonnie Branch for the information below and I admittedly have co-opted it without the approval of Major League Baseball or the Commissioner. If you are a musician looking for a venue, I may be interested in hosting you, so feel free to contact me. But before you do, please take note of the following: - We focus our series on acoustic folk rock/folky pop/performing songwriters with a bit of country thrown in for good measure. We aren’t as roots oriented as some house concerts. And if you consider yourself a "blues" musician, sorry you’re out of luck. Memphis is the home of the blues so we hear world class blues all the time. - We only host a show about once a month, so flexibility in timing is a must. If I really like your music, I’ll probably get to you, but maybe not this season or next or even the one after that or the one after that. So please don’t contact us looking for a gig on such-and-such date. We won’t even consider that unless you’ve been nominated for a Grammy. - My house holds about 45 people; the backyard is slightly larger and could hold as many as 100 if everyone showered that day. - We will provide a small PA but the show needs to be mostly acoustic! We reserve the right to kill drummers and bury their bodies in the backyard. - We will record the show into pro tools for a podcast that we publish on iTunes. The artist will have free use of the resulting recording. - I need to hear more of your music than some short clips; sending me either a CD or Press Kit is required. NO EXCEPTIONS! Live is much preferred if possible. I will NOT review your EPK or listen very long to your myspace page. Otherwise I’d never get away from the computer. Send me a message to get the mailing address. memphishouseconcerts(AT)comcast.net - We will provide an area for you to sell your merch, so please bring some. - I only host shows on Friday, Saturday evenings or Sunday afternoons. Otherwise you will be playing for me and my dogs. Although, they really like music they’re too cheap to pay. - I am more than happy to provide food, beer and lodging for the musicians I book. Just let me know if you’re interested and aren’t allergic to dogs. - Please keep in mind, the odds of me hosting you is slim to none and slim just left town because I only do a few shows a year. Your best bet is to try to figure out if I can come hear you play when you’re in the area. Then I might possibly host you the next time around. Either that or write a number one song. - Finally, if you’ve read this far, perhaps you’re serious and want to impress me with more than just a form letter sent out to a dozen venues at once. If you really want to impress me, put the words "Go Vols" in the subject line and that will get you looked at and listened to even faster because I’ll know you’ve taken the time to read through everything. You can also email me at MemphisHouseConcerts(AT)comcast.net. Again, I will NOT review your myspace page. A CD or Press Kit is required!!! - and finally, the house gets one copy of each of your CDs...you know, for the kids. With all that said, please feel free to contact me. I’ve come across some excellent musicians looking for a place to play. So I am interested in hearing from musicians. If I’m booked solid, your music is off-genre for me, or I just don’t think it will be a good fit with my series, I’ll be politely straight with you...even if you suck. Kidding, I probably don’t have the heart to tell you that.
Sounds Like: oh yeah that’s the stuff...LEGALESE Some people didn’t like what I had written last time.Yes we are a house concert in a PRIVATE RESIDENCE. These parties are NOT A BUSINESS nor a BUSINESS RELATED ACTIVITY. Officially, attendence is FREE although voluntary contributions (suggested donation) are accepted at the party on behalf of the artists. 100% of all contributions go directly to the performers. These parties are "by invitation only."
