The Charmed Ones

Earlier this week, a Japanese whaling fleet left its port in Shimonoseki, for its biggest hunt since the moratorium on commercial whaling came into being over twenty years ago. The whalers intend to kill up to 50 internationally protected humpback whales, a threatened species. Their 5 month mission also plans on killing as many as 935 minke whales and up to 50 fin whales in what Japan,,s Fisheries Agency calls its largest-ever whale hunt. The Japanese conduct their annual whale hunt under the guise of science even though it has been condemned internationally.>>TAKE ACTION: Send an email to stop the whale slaughter.
Hot on the trail of the whaling fleet is the Greenpeace ship Esperanza, which will shadow the whalers and protect the whales. Heath, a ship engineer and boat driver says:,,We are ready, more than ready. There is no doubt that every person on this ship from the newest deckhand to the captain are determined to do whatever it takes to stop this senseless slaughter of these beautiful creatures. Whales face a endless threats, including being caught in nets, ship-strikes, and climate change. The Japanese government should not be adding research whaling to these threats, especially when significant research can be accomplished without harpooning whales.,,The time has come to stop the whale hunt. Japan has close to 4,000 tons of whale meat from its ,,scientific,, whaling program in cold storage ,, uneaten, unsold, and unwanted. We need to tell the United States to put pressure on the Japanese government stop whaling.
Peace & Thanks, Lauren
