About Me

Hurricane Katrina roared into the Gulf Coast on Monday morning, August 29, 2005. Along with millions of Americans, we watched the devastation, and people and pets suffering in ways we could not imagine. So many had lost homes and had no place to go, and as both people and animals struggled to survive, Maverick Creative began raising funds to help with the relief effort.
Maverick Creative, Inc. & BarkBarkWoof.com are continuing sponsors of the Louisiana SPCA's project to build and rebuild animal shelters in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast Region. Our By-You T-shirts & By-You Bandanas are our way of raising awareness and funds to support the opening of a new 17 million-dollar animal shelter in New Orleans.
Fifty percent of all profits from sales of the By-You T-shirts & Bandanas , and ten percent of all profits from the sales of our Incredible Edible Trees are contributed directly to those fund raising efforts.
The Louisiana Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (LA/SPCA) is a private non-profit organization dedicated to the elimination of animal suffering. Chartered in 1888, they are the oldest and most comprehensive animal welfare organization in the state. They have provided care and basic medical services for approximately 11,000 homeless and unwanted animals each year.
Hurricane Katrina crushed the LA/SPCA shelter on Japonica Street in the ninth ward, along with the infrastructure of the organization, shrinking it from over sixty employees to ten. Because they provide a service to both the people and animals of our community, taking time to regroup and rebuild before resuming their animal control services was never an option.
During the 2005 holiday season, we employed survivors of Hurricane Katrina to put together the Incredible Edible Trees and gave the profits back to help shelters that took in Katrina animals. BarkBarkWoof.com was born as an easy way for customers to order the Incredible Edible Tree.
Each day, we have learned more, and we realize that the Gulf Coast is not in need of relief once every few years, but every year. While support was abundant immediately following Katrina and Rita, it has slowed quickly, and is now down to a trickle.
Hurricanes Katrina and Rita brought national attention to the annual hurricane season, and that attention was grossly overdue. The goal of Maverick Creative, Inc. & BarkBarkWoof.com is to raise and maintain awareness of the constant support needed for communities and shelters throughout the Gulf Coast, and to contribute directly to those efforts.
They need your help in addition to ours. Together we can make a big difference!
