About Me

..

SOME THINGS ABOUT JOHN TOMAINO:By my late teens, I had won awards from the Australian Songwriter's Association and published a handful of songs with New York publishers, DSM.My brand of acoustic-based folk/pop/rock is a showcase for my eclectic songwriting style, driven by the vision that songs should do more than just provide short-term entertainment... It’s music with an extended warranty, as I see it.My music is loaded with strong melodies, but you won’t find the clichéd lyrics synonymous with plastic pop. A published creative writer, I shun the sizzling window dressing of over-produced music in favour of restrained productions destined to last.I recorded my debut EP with multi-platinum, Grammy-award winning producer, Scott Mathews (Orbison, Bowie, Cash, Stones, Beach Boys, Starr, Costello, Clapton, Santana, Morrison), from Hit or Myth Productions in California. The EP was engineered by Tom Luekens (Metallica, Skywalker Ranch) and features five songs:• How far is heaven? • Scarecrow • As good a time as any • Blue tune • All that mattersMy music is now distributed globally (including iTunes US, Canada, Europe and Australia) through Dead Famous (Australia).Following MySpace interest, I was invited to play in Southern China. The pioneering tour involved a gruelling schedule of 50 consecutive shows to western and local crowds.I've received airplay on Plenty Valley FM (Melbourne); was added to the playlist of 5TCB FM in South Australia; and internet radio stations across the US. My music is playing on Melbourne's Last FM, DownUndaThunda Radio, and Lizard Lounge Radio.I'm the feature artist on Chromatic Records (Germany) and Damn Good Tunes Magazine (US). I've featured tunes on several compilation CDs including 272 Records Acoustika series: Vols 2 & 4. Available through Amazon.comIn November 2008, I was nominated in the Toronto Music Magazine Awards and won "Best International Adult Contemporary EP".I've prepared demo recordings of my new material ready to form a debut Album.Visit: www.jttunes.com for more.

Influences: The songwriting greats who span the generations ie Neil Diamond, Elvis Costello, Mark Knopfler, Neil Finn, Don McLean, Lennon-McCartney, Paul Simon, Johnny Cash, Brian Wilson, Billy Joel, Cat Stevens. Generally, I dig songs more than bands.
Sounds Like:

JT...! Think of organic, non-genetically modified classic folk/pop, tearing its way to the hard, crusty edge of mellower rock. While every tune stands in its own right, a unique songwriting identity binds all songs. The result is music that matters.

Reviewed By: Lyn Harder, MELBOURNE LIVE."The non-glitzy EP treats us to JT's melodic voice and balances it with keyboards, violin, percussion and back-up singers, a very radio friendly EP with great potential. His voice live reminded me of Cat Stevens, singing with passion and showing us just how organic his music is... A cover of the Leonard Cohen classic "Hallelujah" was beautifully covered".================================================= "What we really like about JT is that you can hear every word he's saying... a lost art reclaimed by our young Australian friend."Read the full interview at: http://damngoodtunes.com/ ================================================="Awesome, awesome stuff!"Geoffrey Williams, international songwriter (credits: Michael Jackson).
