Adding another chapter to the saga of male R&B crooners is the undeniable talent of De Juan VaLentine better known by his stage name VaLentine, who is set to release his debut single “I can do better†off his soon-to-be released VaLentine’s Day (Spring 2009)—preparing to break new grounds and create a new musical trend. The 26-year-old New York-native, singer, songwriter and producer has been working on his sound, his writing and his performance since childhood! It was during his performance of a Stevie Wonder classic during the fifth grade commencement ceremony that VaLentine finally received the validation and the encouragement to pursue music. Since that time, VaLentine attended Clark Atlanta University and Morehouse College in Atlanta, where he gained formal music training and sang in the Philharmonic Society. While on his journey, the talented songwriter honed his songwriting skills penning tunes for many new artists, in addition to writing and producing tracks for his own album, but he quickly reminds people of the true essence of his music. “Whatever I write about, I try to get into the mind frame of that moment and say whatever it is I would want to say — be it good or bad,â€As an active member of SESAC, which has allowed him to perform in various venues around New York City and Atlanta, VaLentine describes his music as "from the heart, to the point, hitting the nail on the head and passion-filled.†Paying homage to the old and new school artists who helped shaped his funky aesthetic; VaLentine cites Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross, Billy Joel, and Mary J. Blige as some of his musical influences. His music portrays some of these artists' flair to entertain and the ability to make you move and think. Do not consider this young heartthrob a newcomer to this new-age sound, although he would not mind, VaLentine is confident with himself. He is not concerned with how his persona or music is received. This message resonates loudly through his lyrics and performance style. Full of passion and bubbling with stirring lyrics, VaLentine celebrates brilliant soul in our period of musical commotion; A level of comfort that makes his project shine.
