About Me

I am currently living in South Korea as a teacher in the infamous "English Village" theme-park-style school. It is humid, surreal and precariously close to North Korea. I have made a new life for myself and may never return to the U.S. Then again, I may be back sometime next week. Who knows? Life's funny that way. But I'm still doin' it for Johnny. So Many Roads.

My Interests

Literature. Film. Food. Oxygen. Water. Sleep (which eludes me for another night).

I'd like to meet:

Jesus. Someone needs to take him down a peg. Or three...

Music:

The Grateful Dead. The Doors. Bob Dylan. Tom Waits. Warren Zevon. The Pogues. The Talking Heads.

Movies:

It's tough to see new movies here in Korea... they have 'em, but they're a ways away from where I am (and, of course, not always in English). I did just see "Spider-Man 3," but I wasn't impressed (see blog). In the past, I have enjoyed a lot of movies, and the only ones that spring immediately to mind are: Benigni's "Life is Beautiful"; "Reign Over Me"; "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest"; the first three "Star Wars" films to be released; "The Godfather (I and II)"; "To Kill a Mockingbird"; "Annie Hall"; "Tootsie"; "Taxi Driver"; and "Coffee and Cigarettes." There are hundreds of others, but who has the time?

Television:

SNL; The Daily Show; The Colbert Report; Letterman; Monk; House; The Venture Brothers; The Simpsons; Family Guy. I miss them here in Korea. We get Leno and Letterman (and sometimes Family Guy) on the Armed Forces Network, but any of the others... send links, downloads, or DVDs!!!

Books:

Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged" and "The Fountainhead"; Haruki Murakami's "A Wild Sheep Chase"; Thomas Pynchon's "The Crying of Lot 49"; Chuck Palahniuk's "Lullaby" and "Choke"; Kurt Vonnegut's "Cat's Cradle" and "Breakfast of Champions"; Jim Marrs's "Rule By Secrecy"; Anything by Robert Anton Wilson or Douglas Adams; Seuss' "Horton Hears a Who"

Heroes:

Bat-Man; The Captain of The-Captain-and-Teneil fame; Gavin Macleod; Lise Meitner

The Damned Thing Strikes Again

I had a lot of fun last night. Being low on funds, Eric and I opted to remain on campus and watch the rainy season begin. We started out at the pub. They were closed, but Stu and Jacob were hanging ou...

OK, so Eric showed up and said that no one was going anywhere off-campus, and he was taking Dave's 'bike' to run down to the corner to pick up booze and do I want to chip in and hang out? Obvious. So ...

I have nothing to say

Just a note to say hello. My weekend just started tonight at 9:00 pm. My last "class" was the evening activity, and the students we had in my group of 50 were all girls, so it wasn't bad at all. The b...
