Story House consists of four singers, players and writers who have been around the Vancouver bluegrass scene since 1980.
They feature original songs and tunes mixed with covers of great songs old and new. Their spine-tingling harmony singing is a cornerstone of their sound.
Maiken de Villiers has performed with the bands "Lonesome Pine" and "Crescent Ranch" as well as being featured in the groundbreaking "Women in Bluegrass" show with Tammy Fassaert and Trisha Gagnon.
She plays bass with a smooth and supple groove and her sweet singing and strong songwriting have won her fans from BC to Hawaii.
Maiken sings the high part in all the choruses.
Jake de Villiers was a founding member of "Whistlestop" and performed in "Kootenay Loop" with Tammy Fassaert, John Reischman and Nick Hornbuckle.
He was the lead singer/guitar player in mandolinist John Reischman's "Tribute to Bill Monroe" which also featured Maiken de Villiers on string bass and high harmony, Michael Heiden and Paul Shelasky on fiddles and Nick Hornbuckle on banjo.
Jake's authentic bluegrass singing style finds the soul of the music and his propulsive guitar style makes the band tick.
He sings the middle part in the trio.
Rob McGregor has played with "The Little Mountain Band" and "Crescent Ranch" as well as spending time in the Contra Dance world playing with "Tempus Fugit".
His eclectic mandolin style and warm voice are essential elements of the "Story House" sound.
Robbie gets the low part in the trio vocals.
Tim Eccles was the lead singer/guitar player with "Great Northern", a well-known Vancouver band. Also a great mandolin player, Story House features Tim on his first instrument, the five string banjo.
His big, warm tone and strong sense of timing keep the band moving, no matter what the tempo or time signature.
Tim sings bass in the quartet.
