Band Members: Dub Station was founded by Kyle Russell, who first brought in keyboardist Rider McCoy (still working with the band regularly) and drummer Charlie Thorpe (plays with band occasionally). Currently, Glen Grant's doing most of the drumming (particularly on tour), and we've had various keyboardists come in, most recently Donny Jones (of Vibewise), Matt Odabashian, and Dia Fearon (founder of the Kaushon band, now living in Jamaica - who toured with Maxi, Sizzla, and others - and who co-produced the DS album "Forward Ever"). Ziggy White was the first steady guitarist with the group, then came Haitian GiGi and Sean Acker, who worked real steady with the crew from '04-'06 (and produced the studio tracks on the Tom O'Brien & Shaka Black collaborations with Dub Station). For the most recent tour, DS picked up Jus Goodie, a singer-songwriter in his own right, who niced up the dates with Abijah throughout.

Influences: Of course all the Jamaican backing bands of the past and present are great models for Dub Station. Musically, and depending on the players' age and style of preference, the whole gamut of greats can be cited as informing their sound. Spiritually, founder Kyle Russell prefers the likes of Black Uhuru, Culture, Spear, and Wailing Souls; while performance-wise: Aswad and Steel Pulse are ultimate mentors. The various dancehall DJ's backed (from Lady Saw to Junior Kelly), as well as the rhythms they've brought to the table, and the samples we've occasionally been able to "cop" have brought the group's dancehall shows to life. Basically, high energy and best representation are our guides into any performance.
