Anyone who compares Ryan Bisland’s style to a cross between Doris Day & Kanye West would have to be just a wee bit daft. As far as looks go however, it’s all a matter of opinion.............He’s a self-styled singer/songwriter who spent his early twenties living out his late teens in London, Glasgow & even Paisley. And he’s got the beard to prove it................In an age where unsigned music is always new & often unsteady, Ryan’s made himself a bit of a name in the West of Scotland’s music scene. From the subtlest of his gravelly vocals to the strongest of his acoustics, his melodies don’t just strike a single demograph, they bring out a little empathy and a lot of spirit across generations. It’s been over a year since he began working with Marvel Heights’ guitarist, Neil Mulholland, and since then the two have developed some great material with which they’ve played various venues, never failing to draw a warm, eager (and often loudly supportive) crowd. Recently they’ve supported such acts as Chris Helme and chart-toppers, Scouting for Girls, after Ryan won a tough competition in association with Rock against Racism.........
(You know you’re doing alright when half the crowd at a Scouting gig are chanting “we’re only here for Ryan Bisland,†before you’re halfway through your set.)............If the past is anything to go by, the future looks pretty darn promising. You’ll often find Ryan & Marvel Heights playing together, and that makes for anything but a shabby night, so make you sure you keep your eyes peeled for the next gig..............If you like what you see and you love what you hear, and you’d like to see and hear a bit more, drop him a line at
[email protected] to book him for a gig. He’s not really one for saying, ‘no.’................Signed......Nick Hay, Writer for the Stars
