Mike-E was born Michael Edwards, after his father, in Indianapolis, Indiana on January 17, 1983. He was given the nickname “Mike-E†by his family members and peers. Mike-E was hardened by the many difficult experiences he endured growing up in Haughville, a well know hood on the Westside of Indianapolis. When he was only three years old his parents decided to divorce because of the many difficulties in their marriage. His struggle continued as he grew older and was often split between his two parents’ until his father passed when Mike-E was only fifteen years old. Mike-E started free-style rapping with his cousins to keep his mind off the tragedy of losing his father. This loss left him with the “F-it†attitude which soon led him to be interested in other things which did not include school. After dropping out of high school, Mike-E picked up free-styling more than before, and began to get serious about his music. Mike-E, standing on his own two feet, decided to take out his frustration from his past and put it in his rhymes.Mike-E is CEO of GIG-FAM Entertainment. GIG-FAM originally started with about 7 members, but over the years has grown to consist of more members and a host of affiliates. GIG-FAM is short for Gigalo Family. It's a name they came up with trying to explain their grind. It's like this...a gigalo is basically a man who sells sex for money. But not only does he sell sex, he sells his time for money. HE is his own hustle. HE is his own grind. They look at it like, THEY are their own hustle. THEY are their own grind. If they don't make it, it is because they didn't hustle themselves hard enough. Since they are selling themselves to the industry of music, they consider themselves gigalos. The other part is easier than that. They are all related, either brothers or cousins so.....Family. The F-A-M also stands for Forever After Money. Gigalo Family or GIG-FAM. You will notice Mike-E, J-Blac and GIG-FAM representing “DA 465 MOVEMENTâ€. Originally “465†was supposed to be the name for the duo of Mike-E and J-Blac. This later on formed into a movement called “DA 465 MOVEMENTâ€.
