Myspace Online Now IconsHi, I am Ryan Joseph Newman aka "Rocket Man". I was born December 8, 1977 in South Bend, Indiana. I am happily married to my best friend and wonderful woman, Krissie.I am a driver in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series. I drive the #12 Alltel, Mobil Oil Dodge Charger for Penske Racing. I graduated from Purdue University in 2001 with a B. S. in vehicle structure engineering.I began my career navigating open-wheel race cars. In 1993, I earned the All-American Midget Series championship, as well as rookie honors. I then moved to USAC and quickly began winning there, as well. In 1999, I was named the USAC Silver Bullet Series National Champion and became the first driver in series history to earn a victory in all three divisions - Sprint, Midget and Silver Crown - in one season.In 2000, I joined forces with motorsports legend Roger Penske and jumped to stock car racing. I won three ARCA races that season and made my Cup series debut at Phoenix International Raceway/Checker Auto Parts/Dura Lube 500. My first win was in 2002 at the New Hampshire 300.My large number of Bud Poles in such a short time period earned me the nickname of Rocket Man.My wife Krissie and I operate the Ryan Newman Foundation. The foundation primarily focuses on assuring that adequate care is provided for unwanted dogs and cats in shelters and pounds. I help fund the construction of the Catawba County, North Carolina Humane Society shelter, in the county where I live.
