As a young child I was not blessed with a whole lot of athletic talent. However, I tried for many years and did not give up because I knew one day things would change and I would find a sport I truly loved and would excel at it.Nobody who knew me would have ever expected that sport would be boxing. The guys in the gym figured I would come in get hit and quit but with the help of my coach Chuck Elliott and a little will power, determination, and a big heart I set out to prove everybody wrong and I think I did just that. Elliott saw how hard the veterans of our club in Fergus Falls, MN would come after me and was impressed at how I would take it and then give it back.4 State Regional Champion, Year 2000
Chuck and I traveled the country and competed and did well at various national tournaments on both the junior and senior level. As a junior I competed in two Junior Olympic National Tournaments 1 Junior Golden Gloves national tournament and also in two Under 19 national tournaments, and then as a senior I was the 1999 4 state runner-up. In 2000 I became the 4 state Regional champion and advanced to compete in the USA national tournament. Most Promising Boxer
In 2001 I repeated 4 state regional champion but this time I was voted the “Most Promising Boxer†of the tournament, which was a big honor to me. Following this I went on to fight at the USA national tournament for the second time where I won my first two fights to eventually lose to a decorated veteran.Making The Professional Transition
I knew Chuck "Sharky" Horton from meeting him at fights as an amateur and he convinced me my style and punching power would better suit me in the pros. In 2003 I took his advice and made the transition from boxing as an amateur to the professional ranks and have never looked back. My first nine fights wents exactly how I wanted, going 9-0 with 7 knockouts. I had a minor setback in my career in April of 2006 when I lost to the 2004 Olympic gold medalist. Even though I lost this fight I learned a lot about pressure since it was the first fight I had on T.V. (HBO). This fight also opened many doors for me as the fans on the east coast really loved my fighting style.12-1 with 10 KO's
Since losing on HBO I have added 3 more victories to my record all three by knockout (2 first round and 1 second round). So far 2007 has been a great year, and the outlook is even better. My team (Chuck and Carinda Horton, Mike L., Jack O'brien, and Bob Lynch) are looking for some big things to happen this year. We want to fight any of the top names in the state so we can get more national exposure and then break out on the boxing scene worldwide.
