Selecta NemoGalen Ashley a.k.a. Selecta Nemo began his musical career as a child, playing fiddle in traditional contests and rock bands. In the late 90’s he became drawn to electronica and rave culture, and began learning to produce and DJ in 1999.
Between 1999 and 2006 Galen was musically active in both Western and Eastern CanadaIn 2000, Galen moved to Ottawa where he attended Carleton University, studying music and sound design. Galen made his mark in the nations capital playing with the acclaimed funk collective PressWon, hosting The Warning, a specialty Jungle show on CKCU FM, and providing production, promotion and performance for Beats and Pieces, an influential series of Graffiti Art Auctions and Parties. In 2004 Galen toured eastern Canada playing violin and turntables with Press Won.Selecta Nemo has also acted as DJ and Producer for the Yukon hip hop project Raw Element, performing at numerous music festivals In the Yukon and British Columbia between 2002 and 2006. Galen Recorded and Mixed Raw Element’s album Matter, Released in and 2006.Currently based in Vancouver, Galen plays, produces and collaborates in Jungle/Drum and Bass, Breakbeat, Dub, Dubstep, Hip Hop and Gypsy Swing projects.
