furious [r=lm] is an experience in transformations,
a bold statement in the world of eclectic groove. furious is Brooklyn, yet our inspiration is also from the bayous of Louisiana, the salt flats of Nevada, the high Mohave and the wide-eyed LA freeways; certainly it is from the northeastern tattered industrial cities that harbor the memories of our youth. Often reminiscent of dust storms, cracking, shifting ice plateaus, or urban landscapes -- from which emerge surprising trysts -- we invite you to explore within a [r=lm] of unique sound structure, a product of our compositions and improvisations and a portrait of our lives; often dark, often swarming, often piercingly bright, akin to fast desert driving and urban settlements. Employing stacked tonality, layers and samples, we arrive at a ensemble sound that will lift you to the [r=lm].
Notes on a record, self titled, furious [r=lm] :
we recorded our debut album in Red Hook, Brooklyn mostly in the winter of 2006. It was recorded "live" style over one weekend. There are two tracks on the album that are from an earlier incarnation of the group recorded in the same location in 2004. Minor post-production and editing was done to add another layer of ambiance and sound, however, what you get is mostly a raw performance of furious in the [r=lm] with ambient samples, wurlitzers, vibraphone, percussion and bass having a dialog in music. On one of these tracks you can hear wicked thunder and rain -- a mic placed to the window screen -- that was falling that wet spring night almost 3 years ago in 2004 while an improvisational paganistic ritual began of blowing conch shells and rumbling upon timpani, shruti box droning away, giving birth to an expanding head-nodding groove that results in incredible vibraphone and B3 solos. Also on this album: New York City musician Sean McCaul hefting up the mighty Vibraphone, Organist Joe Kaplowitz and international recording artist Lars Horntveth, founder of the Norwegian group Jaga Jazzist who lends his horn to two tracks. This album is meant to be approached with open ears and time to immerse yourself. We sincerely hope you enjoy the furious [r=lm].
