First formed in Dallas in 2001, the band has been through a few incarnations before finally settling in fall of 2007 with the current lineup. If you are looking for a definition of what Subcity Vamp's sound is all about, the best description can be taken right from Wikipedia's page on "Death Rock".
Deathrock: (or Death Punk) a term used to identify a fusion of punk rock and gothic rock which incorporates elements of horror and spooky atmospheres within a goth/punk style. Deathrock songs use simple chords, echoing guitars, a prominent bass, and drumming which emphasizes repetitive, post-punk and tribal beats within a 4/4 time signature. The frequently simple song structures, heavy atmosphere and rhythmic music and lead vocalist to convey complex emotions.
Though they are a "Death Rock" band, their spectrum of influences are just way too broad to list. Everything from clasical, 60's/70's/80's, pop, new wave, rock, noise, etc..One could say their sound is a mash up of Sonic Youth, Joy Division, Christian Death, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Pixies and Dead Kennedy's.
Subcity Vamp sings of cultural stagnation. They create an atmosphere of drunken danceable decline with whispers of love. Every new song is a tale of the bands growth as a unit. A great new band with a very old soul.
