About Me

I go by the name of D-gritty, and I’m one of the hardest and most consistent up and coming young artists in Harlem. I was born in the Bronx and raised in Harlem. I had the typical ghetto-oriented childhood. My pops wasn't around while my mom ran the streets battling her drug addiction. I developed a sense of independence at an early age. I moved to Harlem at age 11 and quickly got familiar with my surroundings. I attended a public junior high school by the name of I.S. 136. That’s where I began to explore my talents and decided that I wanted to rap. I met a dude by the name of Bugsy in high school and we decided to form a group called The Teamstas but it wasn't until 1997 that we began to take our careers seriously. We were discovered in 1998 by the late and great phenom, Big L. Big L quickly told numerous executives and A&R's about The Teamstas and the buzz spread throughout the industry quickly. Later that year Rapper/Pastor Masson Betha (also known as Mase) was starting his own label, All Out Records, and decided to sign our group. While signed to All Out we were featured on a track called the "Meaning of Family" which was on Mase's first group, Harlem World's album. We began recording our debut album and were halfway done when Mase decided he didn't want anything to do with the music industry anymore and gave up his life as a rapper/CEO to become a pastor. That was one of the first in a series of setbacks in my career but I continued to work towards my dream. In 2001 we got a manager by the name of Kudda Love (Mase 's old manager) who quickly got us a deal with Penalty Records. We started recording, but unfortunately, halfway through our album production, we discovered that Penalty was being shut down because of the chief executive's personal problems. Once again we were out of a deal but we decided to strive on. Later that year, Kudda introduced us to his newest artist Nelly, who loved our music and wanted to feature The Teamstas on his first album, “Country Grammar”. After excelling in that venture, in 2002 we signed another deal with Desert Storm Records, but after working with the label for over a year we realized the label was too busy promoting their other artists to focus on us, so we decided to get out of the deal. Since then, Bugsy and I decided to focus on our solo careers. As a solo artist, I started my own company called Paperwerk Productions and began to work on generating a buzz in the industry. I just recently completed my 2nd mix tape, which is called “Paperwerk Vol. 2”, and I'm featured on 6 songs on Loon's latest independent album, "No Friends”. My mix tapes are generating a heavy buzz and I'm halfway completed with the production of my debut album. I am full of determination and I won’t stop working towards my dreams until I fulfill them and even then I will still be going hard.
