About Me

Randy Lopez started his formal music education at the young age of 8 on trumpet through the Detroit Public school system. By the age of 12 Harry Schumann of the DSO, whom headed the brass dept, was also privately tutoring him, Randy then went on to become 1st trumpet, 1st chair.
His musical background at this time was in popular, marching, big band and jazz and then at the age of 15, he went to his first dance and got hit in the chest by something he’d never felt before. It was the electric bass. After talking to the player for what seemed like hours, he’d decided he had found his true musical calling. Doing everything and anything, hook or crook to acquire a bass, his dream was finally moving forward.
Endless hours of personal practice, and fights with parents over musical and instrumental preferences, he put down the trumpet and never looked back. Going on to play with anybody in any situation, Randy’s kept adding more and more musical diversity to his palette.
Spending 3 years in the Navy, Randy got introduced to various forms of music from around the world; even further expanding on his musical vocabulary. Randy would have his bass with him everywhere he’d go, just incase there was a jam session, or just to play alone. No opportunity was ignored or passed up, leading to meeting so many musicians across the country.
Playing with some of the heavy hitters around town in everything from Rock, Funk, R&B, Blues, Old and Modern Country, Celtic and other ethnic and world music to jazz-fusion, Randy paints with many colors on many different musical canvases.
His basses of choice are generally 5 stringers, fretted and fretless, but will also use 4 string basses. Always looking for better and different tones, Randy has an ever-changing arsenal of basses and amps, with occasional effects thrown in there.
Always focused on the project and not the individual, Randy has been an asset to any project he’s committed to. It’s about the music and the groove. He plays with authority and commitment.
Randy has playing for national recording artist Justine Blazer, The Sax Maniacs, Dirty Ester and various other projects. He is extremely versatile in the studio, on stage and beyond.
The Justine Blazer band has shared the stage with Lonestar, Jason Aldean, Bucky Covington, Whiskey Falls, Jason Michael Carroll, Lee Roy Parnell.
