About Me

John Dobry moved to New Orleans in August of 2001, and quickly established himself as a player, composer, and instructor around the city. After a long hiatus from playing live, John is back with new projects and enthusiasm. After playing guitar at venues such as Tipatina’s, Dragons Den, Dixon Hall, The Opera House, The Stationhouse and various other spots, John took a break from playing to focus on composing, arranging, and Teaching. Now John is back with three new projects: The John Dobry Group, Gold&Glass, and The Professors of Pleasure. The John Dobry Group, crafted with almost all original Jazz/Rock/Funk tunes, and some Jazz Standards, is John’s newest project. With a band that ranges from guitar trio to septet, The John Dobry Group takes original compositions with fresh looks and ideas, hoping to never play the same thing too many times. The Professors of Pleasure is much more than an interestingly named Jazz Ensemble. With heavy hitters such as Fredrick Saunders on Piano, Kevin O’Day on Drums, Jim Markway on Bass, and John Doheny on Saxes along side John, this group provides much experience and creativity to bring to the modern Jazz style.Gold&Glass is more songwriter based, focused on Sam Gatlin and Nathanael Sprague’s compositions. A quartet, influenced by artists such as Tom Waits and Iggy Pop, they look to expand on the traditional rock sound.John is also an accomplished composer and arranger, having arranged music for various marching and jazz bands, and composed music for film. John is available for composing and arranging projects of any size and style. You can contact him through this website or www.johndobry.com.
