NÚMERO-PROJECTA’06
7th LISBON International Festival of Cinema, Music and Multimedia Arts
@
Cinema S. JORGE, 2nd 12th November 2006
The 2006 edition of NÚMERO-PROJECTA had probably the most coherent and ambitious artistic programming ever, being able to join in single place and during ten days, all areas of contemporary multimedia creation, such as cinema moving image, music, visual and performance areas. We have counted therefore with some of the most influent and expressive forward artists from the four corners of the world (Austria, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Japan, Lithuania, South Africa, Turkey, United Kingdom, USA and, of course, Portugal).
Hereby we leave you some of the logistic figures of 2006 edition:
- 50 music projects, from music to DJs always with moving image
- 60 video projects, from audiovisual concerts to VJs
- 110 movies distributed along 14 sessions (short-movies, medium and long films, animation cinema, experimental, fiction and documentary)
- 4 unreleased Portuguese movies, and premieres
- 2 concert-movies
- 30 video-art projects
- 1 installation
- 6 juvenile screening sessions
- 12 educational programs
- 8 workshops
- 2 conferences
- 2 debates
- technological showcase of music and video
The 3rd Edition of the Portuguese Multimedia Awards were organised for the first time in partnership with APMP (Association for the Promotion of Multimedia in Portugal) and opened to the wider public, which translated in more than 300 submitted works. The jury had to choose among very high quality projects between such different areas as visual experiment, audio and software innovation for image and music. By developing this initiative, with no background in our country, we are sure to achieve a wider promotion of multimedia in Portugal, a constantly forgotten area by the state entities.
One of the most rewarding aspects of NÚMERO-PROJECTA was the strong partnerships established with worlds-renown organisations/festivals, such as Japan Media Arts Festival, Film London/London Artists Film and Video Awards, Addictive TV/Optronica Festival, BodyDataSpace, Gasworks/Blink, Vertigo as well as the Portuguese ones, like Cineclube de Avanca/Filmógrafo. We would like also to give a very special thank you to the collaboration of the music programmers and producers team Variz (Miguel Sá & Fernando Fadigas).
We would like also to strike out the huge participation of the national VJ community, until now dispersed, but that foresaw in this event a good reason to join, show its work and exchange experiences. We couldn’t, therefore, forget to thank all that participated in this meeting and in the VJ Battle, that by obvious technical and schedule reasons wasn’t able to give expression to all participants in the best way. We promise to bring new events in a near future...
NÚMERO-PROJECTA achieved more than 5.500 visitors throughout the 10 days. Finally, the joy of having had more than 280.000 Hits done by 16.000 unique visitors to our website during the ten days of the event, which is a very rich guideline about how to do more and better in 2007.
As far as the finantial overview is concerned, we can only say that we managed to invest 278.000€ of the initial forecasted 250.000€, 15% of which corresponded to official support.
These results honour us and we are sure that they represent a step forward to the goals we have traced to future events.
NÚMERO-PROJECTA’06 will begin in the meantime the traditional itinerancy through some of the major cities of our country. Also, at a more international level, Dinis Guarda, one of the festival organisers, is presently curating the Portuguese participation in an exhibition part of the Video-art and Multimedia Creation Festival taking place in Trieste, Italy, where some of the works shown at the Festival will now be presented along side with authors like Wim Wenders, Doug Atchin or Douglas Gordon, among others.
Some of our cinema, music and video-art program will also be presented in Berlin and other German cities, between June and July 2007, integrated in the Portuguese Festival – International Festival for Arts and Portuguese Culture, another initiative organised by Número – Arte e Cultura for the last six years.
